New Jersey deer hops in pool and does laps. A young deer has discovered the perfect way to cool off in the blazing heat of summer - by doing a few laps in a homeowner's swimming pool. The little critter - already nicknamed 'Bambi' - was first spotted hopping into Brittney Benincasa's pool in Freehold Township, New Jersey last week. Now the fawn has made a few laps in the water part of its daily routine. 'It's a little crazy, but it's cool,' Benincasa, 4. CBS New York. Clearly she knows what she's doing.' Benincasa said that when she first saw Bambi she thought she had fallen in and opened gates to allow her to flee. But despite animal specialists being called to guide the deer out on that occasion, Bambi always returns. Benincasa said her children, who feed the animal tomatoes, would love to adopt Bambi - who is a 'good guest' - but added: 'It's kind of like a distance pet.' In a video of one of her swims, Bambi can be seen peacefully padding around the edge of the pool - looking very much at home. Speaking to the New York Daily News, Benincasa said: 'We have a black- bottom pool, so it looks like a lake.' She also said the pool is full of 'food- grade salt' so there is no worry it will swallow chlorine. But Benincasa said that, sadly, the friendship will inevitably end. She's only going to be small and fit through the fence for a little longer, so let's just let her do her thing,' she said.
